Mark your calendars for the Carteret County Parks and Recreation – Beach Run Series. Join in the fun with a run on the sand. Offering 1 Mile, 5K or 10K. Fun for the entire family. 61st Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

The 2019 Big Rock Tournament will take place June 7-15, 2019 in Morehead City. Among the largest and oldest sport fishing tournaments in the country, The Big Rock calls avid deep-sea fishermen to North Carolina’s Crystal Coast for a full week of angling and community celebration. Over the course of the last half-century, many boats have docked here, many tourists have gathered here, and many Morehead City natives have come and gone. Our mission has always stayed the same: to represent the sport fishing community as superbly as only Morehead City can!

Kudubai @ Cru Wine Bar

Kudubai are a five-piece band from Morehead City, NC. They have been performing in the area since 2010—playing a mix of original and eclectic cover tunes. The main thing to expect at a Kudubai show is variety, as all five members are multi-instrumentalists and singers. The music is a blend of rock styles and is often a little quirky, involving unique combinations of guitar, bass, Afro-Latin percussion, horns, banjo, accordion and more. While the membership of the band has fluctuated over the years, the two founding members are still strummin’ and pluckin’ away. The band’s present arrangement has them playing their most fun and creative music to date.

22nd Annual Keli Wagner Lady Angler Tournament

The KWLA Tournament, sponsored by Alexseal Yacht Coatings, is a one-day billfish release tournament with lines dropping in at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th, 2019 and fishing ending at 2 p.m. The lady angler reception held on Friday, June 7th, 2019 is sponsored by Linda Rike Real Estate, and will serve as the official kick-off to the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament and its 61st Annual Event. The most anticipated aspect of the kickoff party is the Best Dressed Contest with fishing teams dressed head-to-toe in vibrant, colorful regalia.
The KWLA tournament, celebrating it’s 22nd annual event, is named in honor of the late wife of Big Rock board member, Casey Wagner. Keli Wagner lost her battle with cancer in 2008. Keli was enthusiastic about the success of this tournament and she played a vital role in having the tournament proceeds donated to the cancer clinic. To date, KWLA has donated a total of $303,916 towards the improvement of patient comfort and care.

Emily Musolino is a Durham, NC native who mixes soulful vocals with shredding blues rock guitar riffs. The depth of emotion in her voice is stunning and her songs have a classic sound and lyrics that tell compelling stories. A Berklee College of Music graduate, Emily has opened for and collaborated with artists like Ani Difranco, Nikki Hill, Vinx, Shana Tucker, Anna Wise (SonnyMoon, Kendrick Lamar) and Eric Hirsh (The Beast, Orquesta GarDel). She is also owner and head engineer at Blue Moose Recording Studio in Durham and Co-founder of the women’s music and arts collective Mama May I. Emily released her newest album “The Vault” in April 2018. Emily has been featured several times on NPR’s the State of Things with Frank Stasio and written up in the News and Observer. She currently fronts the Emily Musolino Band and plays 200+ shows a year, both bandleader and soloist around the world.

The museum will show five different movies, all starting at 6 p.m. in the museum’s auditorium:
• Pirates of Penzance (1980), rated G, on May 24
• Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), rated PG-13, on June 21
• Peter Pan (1953), rated G, on July 12
• Treasure Island (1950), rated PG, on Aug. 9
• Treasure Planet (2002), rated PG, on Sept. 13.
Admission is free, and everyone who attends all five showings will receive a free pirate hat.

Caviar Farm Tour & Tasting

That’s right, there’s a caviar farm right here in Carteret County!
Marshallberg Farm is the largest producer of Russian Sturgeon caviar in the U.S.A., with capacity to produce up to 3 tons of caviar per year. Due to popular demand, the Down East facility will be holding a series of farm tours and caviar tastings.
The tour includes a guided walk amongst 40 indoor recirculating aquaculture tanks that teem with sturgeon and span some 54,000 square feet of building space. Following the tour, there will be a caviar and smoked sturgeon tasting and a chance to purchase products.

59th Annual Old Homes & Gardens Tour

This 59th annual walking tour of private homes, gardens, churches and historic places is the last full weekend in June. Other highlights of the weekend include tours of the Beaufort Historic Site buildings, the Old Burying Ground, narrated bus tours of the historic district, and an antique car show. Tickets are good for both June 28th and 29th. The tour is self-paced with time to visit all the shops and restaurants in downtown Beaufort. Mikele Buck Band @ Salt

The Voice 2018 contestant Mikele Buck was born in the Hills of West Virginia, where his family was steeped in the traditional music of the Appalachians. Playing drums in rock bands for most of his high school days, after graduation Mikele bought his first guitar. He started writing songs and playing local taverns, bars, and bonfire parties, testing his own songs out on friends and family. His original songs are a blend of all his musical influences, including Steve Earle, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt and Red-Dirt artists like Randy Rodgers Band and Reckless Kelly. After returning from the Iraq war in 2005, Mikele went to Nashville to record his first CD and established his first band near Greenville NC. This band’s popularity grew and soon they were opening up for major acts such as Jason Aldean and Joe Nichols. From NC night clubs and fairs, the Mikele Buck Band began drawing record crowds of their own. His latest iTunes release has been pouring through car speakers all over the east…
