Cape Carteret

The town of Cape Carteret was incorporated in June of 1959. It is located along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) in the western end of Carteret County. Visitors are welcomed by golf courses, restaurants, shopping and more, all just minutes from the beaches of Emerald Isle. Several attractions in the area are the Star Hill Golf Course, a 27 hole public course; Mac Daddy's sport center including bowling and billiards; Harborlight Guest House, a bed and breakfast surrounded by the waters of the sound and ICW; and the Cape Carteret Aquatic and Wellness Center. A new library is within walking distance of several developments.

This is a great place to call home. Located half way between Jacksonville and Morehead City, Cape Carteret real estate is never boring.  There are waterfront homes on the sound and canals, golf course homes on Star Hill Golf and lovely homes tucked into the trees of several upscale developments. It is a popular area for the military to purchase homes because the town is halfway between the Marine Corp bases of Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point.

Swansboro

Swansboro, is the quiet little "city by the sea", situated along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, and perched along the banks of the White Oak River and the ICW. Swansboro's history began around 1730, when the first permanent settlement was established on the former site of an Algonquin Indian Village.  In 1783 the colonial port town of Swansboro was incorporated in honor of Samuel Swann, former speaker of the NC House of Commons.  

Shipbuilding became a major industry until the Great Depression of the 1920's when the town turned to commercial fishing to survive. Swansboro is a town with a unique hilly landscape.  It is the home of the famous "Mullet Festival".  Favorite pastimes include boating, fishing, kayaking, antiquing, and delightful dining. Walk thru the quaint downtown and enjoy seeing old sea captains' homes as well as a multitude of antique shops.  Enjoy dining waterside on the decks of many restaurants specializing in local cuisine. A famous favorite is Yana's from the rock and roll era.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville, North Carolina is a city in Onslow County, one of the oldest counties in the state located in North Carolina's Inner Banks.  The early history of Jacksonville starts with the end of the Tuscarora wars. The removal of Native American tribes allowed for permanent settlements between New Bern and Wilmington.  Created in 1734, it was named for the honorable Arthur Onslow, who served for many years as Speaker of the British House of Commons.

In 1752, a devastating hurricane destroyed the county seat of Onslow County and the present site of Jacksonville was chosen as the site of the new county courthouse.  In 1842 the town was incorporated and renamed Jacksonville in honor of former U.S. President Andrew Jackson.

Jacksonville continued to rely on naval stores, lumber and tobacco corps for the industry until 1939 when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers surveyed and mapped the area.  The map is believed to have sparked the interest of the War and Navy Departments in establishing an amphibious training base in the area.  Camp Lejeune located in Jacksonville is the largest Marine Base on the east coast.  New River Marine Air Station located nearby is home to the newest aircraft in the marine fleet, the Osprey.

Construction of Camp Lejeune caused a population explosion in the small town.  Today Jacksonville's primary industry is retail sales and services.  Jacksonville's Mall has unlimited shopping possibilities. In addition, there are discount chains, hotels and a great variety of restaurants to enjoy.

There is a wide array of homes in the Jacksonville real estate market.  New developments have sprung up everywhere in the last few years making Jacksonville one of the "hottest home sale" markets in the country because of the influx of many military personnel.
