More About Crystal Coast NC
Crystal Coast has one of the most beautiful white sandy beaches along the eastern coast. A vacation home in Crystal Coast offers a laid back and peaceful atmosphere amongst the blue Atlantic Ocean. The Crystal Coast coast and surrounding area was originally designed in the 1920's to create a large tourist summer attraction with an Crystal Coast ocean resort. Henry Fort, previous owner of Crystal Coast, worked with developers to create designs for this Crystal Coast ocean resort, but the plans never materialized. When he died, he gave his daughter, Anita Maulick, the Crystal Coast beautiful stretch of beach. In the 1950's she sold it to a developer who divided Crystal Coast into quite a number of 1,100 foot blocks that were designed to implement residential and commercial development. In 1971 a bridge from Crystal Coast to the mainland was built and most of the Crystal Coast development increased substantially.
Crystal Coast has many people wondering how it got its name as Crystal Coast. A few thought that the developers must have been Irishmen, whereas others felt the builders were jewelers previously and named the Crystal Coast area after a favorite stone. Nevertheless, others believe that the Crystal Coast maritime forest is the cause for its name. Another perspective is when developers flew over the Crystal Coast and saw the area as a green gem in the middle of the sea, they decided the area should be called Crystal Coast.

Things To Do From A Crystal Coast Vacation Home:
North Carolina's Southern Outer Banks is also known as the Crystal Coast. The Crystal Coast is composed of Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Beaufort, Morehead City and Cape Lookout.
The Crystal Coast is known as the beach cottage-for-a-week destination. The Crystal Coast is all about relaxation. The Beaches along the Crystal Coast shoreline are not crowded. Family vacation traditions almost always includes boating to the undeveloped islands of Cape Lookout National Seashore, where wild horses are the only inhabitants. Shrimping, crabbing, fishing, and clamming are also very popular.
The Crystal Coast is perfect for parasailing, kayaking, harbor tours, fishing, jet skiing, scuba diving and snorkeling.
North Carolina's 300-plus mi of coastline are fronted by a continuous series of fragile barrier islands. Broad rivers lead inland from the sounds, along which port cities have grown. Lighthouses, dunes, and vacation homes (often built by out-of-staters) dot the water's edge. There are battle sites from the American Revolution and the Civil War, elegant golf links, and kitschy putt-putt courses. Aquariums, fishing charters, and museum outreach programs put you up close and personal with the seashore critters. North Carolina's small towns (mostly of 1,000 to 3,000 people) offer genuine warmth and hospitality.
Beaches
The Crystal Coast area of Bogue Banks is where most of the beach communities are located allowing public access. The Crystal Coast public beach access areas are marked with signs that exhibit blue letters and a sea gull flying in an orange circle. Some of the Crystal Coast access areas have gates that are opened at dawn and closed at dusk. The Crystal Coast allows driving on the beach with certain restrictions.
Atlantic Beach on the Crystal Coast is a haven of sunbathers. Atlantic Beach is home to spacious beaches and plenty of sunshine. Atlantic Beach on the Crystal Coast is the oldest of five resort towns.
Pine Knoll Shores on the Crystal Coast was once owned by America's own royal family, the descendents of Theodore Roosevelt. Pine Knoll Shores is known as a peaceful residential community with an eco-friendly focus. The area was designed with minimal disturbance to the native maritime forest and sand dunes and is one of the state's most ecologically sensitive towns.
Indian Beach/Salter Path are two small villages along the Crystal Coast and are located between Pine Knoll Shores and Emerald Isle on the Bogue Banks. All types of fish, shellfish, and oysters are sold at scores of local stands. The beach can be accessed by taking a walk down the long, winding boardwalk through forested dunes.
Emerald Isle is known as the most prominent of the banks on the Crystal Coast. Named for the lush greenery that covers much of the Crystal Coast area. Emerald Isle is located at the western end of the Bogue Banks. Accommodations dotting the Crystal Coast coastline range from quaint beach cottages and condominiums to beach houses known locally as "sand castles."

Attractions:
Beaufort Ghost Walk
Take an after dark stroll through the historic town of Beaufort. Hear chilling stories of murderous pirates, unexplained happenings, ghost ships and haunted houses. See Blackbeard's House, a 300-year old cemetery and much more.
Cape Lookout National Seashore
A 56-mile strand of silken beaches that make up the coastal islands of eastern North Carolina, one of the few remaining natural barrier island chains in the world, accessible only by boat. Those seeking the freedom to experience complete solitude and an opportunity to discover endangered animals in their natural habitats can also explore the beach to find a multitude of large unbroken conch shells. Frequently dotting the beaches and woven in between the sand dunes are families and shore fishermen camping with tents pitched -- fishing, hiking, and delving into all that mother-nature has to offer. History comes alive at the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters built in the mid-1800's to warn passing ships of the dangerous coastal waters. Standing at 163 feet tall, the lighthouse was painted with a distinctive black and white diamond pattern in order to distinguish it from other North Carolina lighthouses and is open to visitors to climb a few weekends each year, with future enhancements allowing for year-round access.
Fort Macon State Park
Originally designed to guard Beaufort Inlet and Beaufort Harbor, Fort Macon has been the site of wartime tragedies and triumphs. During the Civil War the fort changed hands several times between Union and Confederate forces, eventually fell into disrepair and was finally restored as a part of the state park system in 1934. The fort was taken over by the federal government once again during World War II and used to protect a number of important nearby facilities. Now the state park is home to a protected beach, complete with seaside bathhouse, sunny nature trails, family friendly picnic facilities and a rich supply of fish. Visitors take spirited ghost tours highlighting the eccentric past the fort has experienced. The fort recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, restoring the 26 casemates, or vaulted rooms, used as shelter, kitchen space, and as prison cells for soldiers.
North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores
Visitors can view more than 3,000 specimens of North aquatic life at the aquarium, which is now three times larger than before. The "Living Shipwreck" features a life-sized replica of a German U-352 submarine and Blackbeard's infamous ship, The Queen Anne's Revenge with a 60-foot viewing window. The aquarium itself resides in its own native North Carolina habitat, the 300-acre Roosevelt Maritime Forest.
